Förstår is an almost U-shaped country in northern Europe. The total landmass is 471,772.1 square miles. It is made up of 3 peninsulas, named the Kola Peninsula, the Jutland Peninsula, and the Scandinavian Peninsula. There are many water bodies surrounding the Peninsulas, including the Norwegian Sea, North Sea, Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Bothnia, and the Gulf of Finland. The land on the west is more mountainous due to the Scandinavian mountains, but the land along the coasts are at sea level. There are some beaches along the coast, but some are more rocky than others. The majority of the land on the east side consists of thick forests. During the ice age, ice carved out valleys that filled up with water, creating many fjords. In the east, there are a group of lakes called the Finnish Lakeland.
Towns, villages, and cities in the northern part of the country are more likely to be less developed, because of a smaller population that is due to colder temperatures. Cities along the southern and eastern coasts are more developed with large populations. In the far north, many areas are left untouched because of the extreme cold temperatures. The names of the major cities are Regn, Strålende, Kunniga, Ymmärtää, and Älykäs. The capital of Förstår is Forstå.
The vegetation in Förstår is tundra, needleleaf forest, and cropland. Several factors affect the climate. For example, the high latitude creates a colder temperature. Two air masses effect the climate, called the continental polar and maritime arctic air masses. Both air masses are cold, which creates a colder climate. Since Förstår is surrounded by water, the temperatures from season to season generally will not have a very drastic change in most areas on the coast or the interior. The warm ocean currents on the west coast creates an orographic effect with the Scandinavian Mountains, creating a rain shadow effect on the west coast. With low pressure, Förstår usually receives cold dry air. In Förstår, wind storms are very common in autumn and in winter. Some of these windstorms can be very severe.
Förstår's climates are marine west coast, humid continental, and subarctic. The marine west coast climate generally is cloudy, foggy, and damp. The temperatures throughout the year are mostly constant, and precipitation is equally distributed throughout the year. The humid continental climate has a variety in temperatures and precipitation. Air masses from the arctic region flow over this region and frequently collide with tropical air masses, changing weather conditions. This region experiences 4 seasons, but each season is determined by latitude. The subarctic climate has large temperature variations between summer and winter, and contains evergreen forests called taiga. Summers are short and cool, while winters are very cold. Temperatures in the winter are usually at freezing or below.
